AthFest 2025, beyond the headliners
AthFest’s 2025 program connects stages, clubs and the Art Book Fair—a map for discovering Athens artists through the venues and organizations that presented them.

A festival lineup can be read in two directions. Start at the top and it becomes a list of the biggest names. Follow the smaller print and it becomes a map: rooms, presenters, neighboring art forms, and people working at different scales. AthFest's 2025 program rewards the second approach.
The festival’s 27th edition, scheduled for June 20–22, 2025, connected three outdoor stages and a Club Crawl involving 13 local music venues. The organizer's April announcement placed T. Hardy Morris and Upchuck on Friday's mainstage bill, with Bubba Sparxxx among Saturday's performers and The Vegabonds on Sunday. These were anchors for a weekend whose more revealing quality was its range. Organizer's 2025 announcement
Follow the rooms
Rather than reproduce a long list of artists, try following the venues. The announced Club Crawl connected Georgia Theatre and the 40 Watt with smaller settings, including Hendershot's, Flicker, and Buvez. The last of those was identified as a new Club Crawl participant in 2025. A festival schedule can make a room someone has never entered feel like a reasonable next stop. It can also give listeners a practical way to move beyond the acts they already know. 2025 lineup
An archived program can still lead to new listening. Pick an unfamiliar artist, find their own recordings and current announcements, then follow the venue that programmed them. A name in the smaller print can become the beginning of a longer interest.
The organizer’s gallery records particular performances, including Florence Cardigan on June 20, 2025. The announced lineup and the photographic record serve different purposes: the first shows the plan; the second documents moments from the festival. AthFest — dated performance gallery
The music had company
Contemporary coverage also described an Artist Market, youth programming, and a gospel brunch. WUGA's June 18 preview explained the relationship between AthFest and the nonprofit AthFest Educates, whose work supports K–12 arts education in Athens-Clarke County. The public stages and the fundraising purpose belonged to the same event. WUGA preview
The Athens Art Book Fair was also listed for June 21 at the Athenaeum, with free admission and work from artists and presses. It connected the music weekend with another form of local publishing, giving visitors a route from a band to a printmaker or an independent publication. UGA — June 21, 2025 Art Book Fair listing
The program’s value extends beyond its headline names. It records relationships among artists, rooms and organizations that are easy to miss when a festival is reduced to its biggest acts. Following those connections is a way to keep discovering Athens music.
